Why Wool Socks? And even in the Summer?!

To some, the mere thought of wearing wool, especially in the humid south in the SUMMER seems ridiculous.  Wool helps keeps you warm, so why would you want it in summer?  Wool breathes.  Where other performance fabrics only let air in and out through the pores between the stitches of the fabric, wool fabric lets air in and out through the entire fabric.  This means you won't feel sweaty and clammy, and it actually helps prevent you from overheating.

Wool also helps wick moisture from your skin and allows it to evaporate away.  Wool has the power to absorb 30% of it's weight in moisture before you even feel it.  Perfect for rainy, humid hikes or for traversing streams.  You won't need to worry about your feet getting cold as the sun goes down because wool keeps its insulating properties even when it's wet.

Wool doesn't smell!  Do you have a favorite synthetic hiking shirt?  Do you notice it starts to stink after a few wears, even after you wash it?  Wool is naturally antimicrobial and won't hold onto sweaty odors.  Who wants stinky feet to detract from their enjoyment of their adventures?!

Another great reason to choose wool is it has low flammability. Wool naturally puts itself out quickly when introduced to flames and will not melt to your skin like synthetics can.

    Too bloody right !
Wool socks, summer and winter, are still the best.
They’ll still keep your feet warm, no matter how wet and cold.
That’s why those old time river driver loggers wore those red wool Union suits.
Wool, will keep you alive, even if you fall in freezing cold water, like a river.

Also, especially in the summer, wool socks are the only thing that will wick the moisture up out of the top of your boots, and they’re very good padding, keep you from getting blisters.
